What is it?

Float pod therapy goes under many names and can also be known as “immersion therapy”, “isolation baths”, restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST), or even sensory deprivation therapy. It is a chamber that has about a foot or so of water with Epsom Salts.  The salt in the water has two properties:

  1. It creates the buoyancy for your body to float more easily and effortlessly on the surface of the water without using any breathing techniques or equipment upon treatment; and

  2. The salt has a beneficial effect on your skin and body.

The therapy requires you to lie in the “pod” and relax.  The pod has lights and sound capabilities if you want them, or can be quiet and dark if you prefer that way to relax.

To enjoy this marvelous therapy what do you need to know…

First time floaters.

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled float to complete necessary paperwork and to also receive a quick tour of our float spa.

  • Freshly colored hair: Wait two weeks before floating.

  • Spray/Faux Tanning: Wait 5 days before you float.

  • It is always best if caffeine is avoided before your float.

  • You may experience a certain level of discomfort while floating if you shave or wax the same day before your appointment.

  • Hydrate and be sure to eat a light meal 2 hours prior to your float.

  • Keep a contact leans case and solution with you if needed.

  • A swimsuit is not necessary - you will always have privacy at our spa.

  • We provide towels and showering amenities that are replenished after each use to ensure proper cleanliness and a safe environment for each guest.

Cleanliness of the water.

Hygiene is of the utmost importance to us, that’s why our float spa is cleaned/disinfected after each use. The saline solution is filtered through an extensive system to ensure all impurities are removed while any residue left behind on the interior float spa is wiped down and sanitized. The UV light and ozone purification system are part of the pod design which keep the water clean all the time.

Advice for a better float.

  • Having an extra hot shower before your float may cause you to feel cool when first laying in skin temperature solution. We suggest that by keeping the temperature of the shower on a comfortably warm setting will help you ease into your floating bliss without the shock caused by a temperature change (the water is kept at 950 F in the float spa).

  • Try various positions with your arms.

  • Steady yourself and allow yourself to drift during your float - try to not push off the walls with too much force.

  • Progressive relaxation is a technique used by many who float. Imagine each muscle and joint starting with your feet. Mentally release tension from each muscle, working your way up the body while taking full, deep breaths into your lungs and belly.

  • Expect nothing and just let everything go.

  • Are the water and pod clean?
YES! The inherently sterile salt water is filtered continuously when not in use through a UV and ozone purification system. After each float session the pod will perform 3 full filter cycles ensuring every single drop of water is clean. Any residue left behind on the interior float spa is wiped down and sanitized.
  • Can I sink?
No! You couldn’t even if you tried…thanks to 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt! Floating is effortless in the highly salinated water so let it do all the work for you.
  • Can I drown?
No! Some clients fall asleep while floating but it is highly unlikely that you will flip over, and even if you do then the salt will immediately cause a burning sensation in your eyes and nose so you will wake up.
  • I am claustrophobic.
You will be in complete control of your environment. You can leave the lid open, turn on all the lights, and listen to music or a podcast. If you experience anything uncomfortable during the float, there is a two-way intercom to talk to us.
  • I am pregnant.
Floating while pregnant is probably one of the best things that you can do! Not only should you experience relief while floating weightlessly, many clients are able to connect with their baby in a very unique and memorable way (for example, you can hear your baby’s heartbeat!) Consult your doctor prior floating as any pregnancy is individual.
  • I am sunburnt.
Epsom salt will actually make your skin feel way better if you have a sunburn.
  • I got salt in my eyes.
Salt will irritate if you happen to get it in your eyes, but we provide a spray bottle with clean water and a dry washcloth to rinse your eyes clean. Then you can get back to enjoying your float! You usually only make that mistake once 😊
  • Can I get a skin wrinkle?
No! The Epsom salt actually stops your skin from wrinkling. It’s amazing how your skin feels so smooth and clean after your float.
  • Can it improve my sleep?
Floating can increase dopamine production which helps with mental relaxation, and being unable to look at your phone, watch tv, or anything else that would distract you during the night is a huge plus! If you have trouble sleeping, think of floating as a tool to help naturally calm your mind.
  • What are the physical benefits?
Floating provides such a unique environment that takes away all the stressors that you don’t even realize affect your physical being; for example, gravity is one. Your body uses this time of respite to its fullest. Your muscles and joints enter a deep relaxation and allow increased blood circulation which provides vital nutrients to speed up recovery from injuries and chronic pain.
  • What are the mental benefits?
With most external stimuli removed from your environment, your brain is able to recuperate just as much as your body. Floating is an amazing tool for stress management and anxiety. The psychological benefits of being calm and finding inner peace is profound.
  • I workout a lot…can it help me to recover?
Yes! Lactic acid can really affect your performance and floating in a pod full of Epsom salt will do wonders for your recovery.
  • Is there an age requirement?
Yes! You must be 16 years of age to float, but must be accompanied by a parent. 18+ years of age, float on your own.
  • Do I need to bring anything?
If you wear contacts, it’s good to bring a case, your solution, and glasses. You also do need to shower before and after getting in the tank, so if you have special toiletries, you should bring those too. If you have long hair, you might want to bring a brush. We do provide soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, washcloths, earplugs, q-tips, lotion, and makeup remover.
  • Can I float on drugs or drunk?
Please understand that we cannot allow the illegal use of any substances in our facility. And for insurance reasons, we have to turn away any clients who are visibly impaired when they arrive.
